(Re)Collecting Outcast Europe was a digital culture project that aimed to redevelop and enrich the digital collection Outcast Europe — i.e. the thematic collection that brings together content related to migratory and refugee experiences, including the digital copies of the material objects that were gathered and digitised during the homonymous project, implemented from September 2017 to February 2019.

Main activities

During the project, Inter Alia, in close cooperation with PostScriptum:

  • Redesigned the structure of the website and enhanced its functionalities, in order for the collection to be interlinkable with selected mega-platforms of digital cultural heritage.
  • Enriched the collection with descriptive information, in order for its content to be easily reused and reframed for educational and research purposes.
  • Created digital thematic exhibitions, that present specific historical, socio-political and cultural topics, highlighted by the content of the collection.
  • Created digital educational activities that can help students learn more about the complex phenomenon of enforced movement in interactive and imaginative ways.
  • Provided crowdsourcing tools and supportive guides that can help the public participate actively in the enrichment and improvement of the collection in the foreseeable future.
