“Solidarity with Refugees” conference, Prague

The next station of our cross-European series of conferences on the refugee question is closing up! Organizace pro pomoc uprchlíkům, z.s. (OPU) along with Inter Alia and 5 more European NGOs, cordially invites you to the international conference titled “Solidarity with Refugees in our Past and in our Future” on 24 September 2021 at Prague City Hall, Staroměstské náměstí 1, Hall of the Architects (Staroměstská radnice – Sál architektů) on 24 September 2021. This 4th conference:

  • Takes a closer look at how the Czech and Slovak refugees were accepted in the past, how the Central European countries have been receiving refugees in the last decades.
  • Discusses the example of persecuted Belarusian citizens this year and examines how our societies and politicians reacted to their plights.
  • Listens to former refugees in the Czech Republic reflect on their integration process
  • Features presentations by municipal experts from Berlin and Prague on integration efforts of their cities. Inter Alia’s Nikos Papakostas intervenes on the same panel with a talk on “Municipalism as a  Response to the Needs of Migrants and Refugees”
  • Discusses the future of European Union’s solidarity with refugees.

The conference features panel discussions and talks with: Ms. Magda Faltova from SIMI Prague, Ms. Iryna Hnasevych from Poland, Ms. Lea Rojec from Slovenia, Ms. Džana Popović from OPU, Ms. Akvilé Kriščiūnaitė from Lithuania – a country currently deeply under pressure by the entries of migrants from Belarus, Mr. Jan Janoušek from the City of Prague, Mr. Janne Grote from the city of Berlin, respected tech leader Marvan Shamma and many other distinguished speakers.

The Conference will take place in English and will be broadcasted live on Facebook for participants to follow the discussions in Prague remotely.
