LOVE me GENDER

Training Course for Youth Workers, 5 – 12 November 2015, Zagarolo, Italy

Ioanna Gympaki: In this training I saw myself revising some basic notions upon which I built my whole perception of the world. I learned about gender-based divisions, that society has invented in order to separate us and broke free from stereotypes about homosexuality that I inevitably carried. I understood the way stereotypes function, how they automatically invade our thinking and how sometimes people in their attempt to establish their identity are actually reinforcing gender division stereotypes and put themselves in a gender box. I also learned how we, sometimes, as humans consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally use the same tools that we should try to destroy. Trough videos, presentations, advertisement analyzing and a lot of discussion, Ifound myself questioning what is normal, and what is accepted according to the norms of the society and I saw through alternative, stereotype-free ways to accept the diversity of people.
