Nikos Papakostas

Nikos is a political scientist and one of the partners and founders of Inter Alia. Working closely with the rest of Inter Alia team, he has authored, fund-raised and organised initiatives at local, national, European and international level mainly in the fields of political participation, education and youth work, cultural awareness and remembrance. He is the script writer and producer of short and long documentary movies and videos, most notably, “The Poor Cousin” (2017) and “The Land of Milk and Honey” (2019). In 2018, he led the production of the “Outcast Europe” international exhibition on memories of displacement and movement (www.outcasteurope.eu). He is co-editor of two cross-disciplinary collective volumes on contemporary European politics and societies while his research and policy analyses have been published in journals, books and magazines. Nikos coordinates a pan-European network of organisations active in the field of youth which, among others, advocates for changing funding allocation practices for civil society organisations by EU institutions and embracing a process-driven, change-inducing culture of civic initiative. Starting from 2020, he heads the production of the yearly “Positively Different Short Film Festival” (www.positively-different.net) focusing on intersecting stories and shared struggles of oppressed groups and individuals. He regularly participates in the development, planning and delivery of educational programmes, leads workshops and gives lectures to students and young learners, youth workers and project managers in the aforementioned fields. Nikos currently pursues a PhD on civil society studies at the department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese.
