Solidarity in a Future Europe

Solidarity in a Future Europe, is designed to connect citizens from across Europe in a series of conferences that will encourage better services to and better understanding of migrants and refugees, their daily lives, and the circumstances that brought them to the European Union. Representatives and volunteers from refugee service organisations and local citizens will attend conferences that will empower them to engage in intercultural exchange while offering direct paths for engaging in policy advocacy and volunteering.

The conferences will tackle issues that are pressing in each country and provide space for participants to meet peers from other countries, learn from knowledgeable and diverse speakers and connect with opportunities to volunteer and engage in advocacy. Both the structured schedule of the conferences and the opportunity for informal connection around a shared agenda shall civic engagement and intercultural dialogue.

The conference themes and their host countries are as follows:

• Muslim Migrants in Europe: Overcoming Social Stigma, 8-9 October 2020 – Krakow
• Access to Independent Legal Advice, 4-5 November 2020 – Puchberg, Upper Austria
• Solidarity with Refugees in Our Past and in Our Future, 17-18 December 2020 – Prague
• Potentials & Limitations of Subnational Responses to the Migrant Question, 4-5 March 2021 – Athens
• Alternative housing solutions for the elderly and migrants, 22-23 April 2021 – Ljubljana
• The Policies of (Un)welcome: Regional Perspectives, 21-22 June 2021 – Vilnius
• What the EU Can Do in the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors, 20-21 May 2021 – San Sebastian

The selected topics respond to specific challenges indicated by partner organisations in each country, but are clearly relevant to participants from Europe as a whole and will, together, achieve the project’s goals of fostering civic participation, dialogue, and engagement. The conferences provide participants with a general framework for understanding refugees and migration policy in Europe (Solidarity with Refugees in Our Past and in Our Future; and The Policies of (Un)Welcome), address the societal and cultural impact of migration (Co-existence of Different Cultures in Urban Environments; and Muslim Migrants in Europe: Overcoming Social Stigma), and discuss specific policies and steps that the European Union and European Citizens can take in response (Access to Independent Legal Advice; and What the EU Can Do in the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors).
