Migration and refugee movement is often perceived and portrayed as a crisis; a question of ‘here and now’ that requires urgent measures. However, if we were to overlook the urgency in which the migrant question is depicted in the public discourse, it would be easier to draw parallels between contemporary social struggles including local and migrant populations and deconstruct arguments that feed otherness and conflict. Migration is an everlasting phenomenon; contemporary developments are all but unprecedented. Placing migrant and refugee integration in an intersectional, transnational, value-based framework, the team of Inter Alia, participants from CSOs in the UK and Italy, and guest lecturers explored the role of civil society and civil society professionals in interacting with migrants and refugees in a way that is humane and mutually empowering.
