To launch a new initiative we need not only an appetite for work, but very specific skills too. For that reason, at the end of November 2023, our team visited Moltivolti in Palermo for a 3-day “Training of Trainers”, based on the experiences that the two partner organisations bring to the project. General topics as empathy, cultural awareness and respect for diversity were explored with the aim of sensitising further the facilitators of the following sessions. Among the basic lines of work was the acceptance of the fact that we all carry prejudice and rely on existing stereotypes. Therefore, deconstructing them is an ongoing multilevel process.
By co-designing and implementing the Training, the working team of the project feel more confident on the forthcoming steps, which are the Meetings with local youngsters and the following 3 Cycles of Workshops, where participants will have an active role on the way to their self-empowerment process. By bringing young people from different backgrounds together, we aim at setting the stage for their creative and fruitful co-existence, while topics to work with will be racism, discrimination and global inequalities.
The Training included youth workers and linguistic and cultural mediators. All together they tried to establish a common framework, by sharing the methods commonly used, as well as replicable activity sets that could be applied and modified in the next phases of the project.
