Inspired by the heritage of the Shadow Theatre and Karagiozis, “Through Black Eyes” brings together exceptional comic stories by ten talented artists from the Balkans and the EU.
The stories delve into the world of Karagiozis, a character that symbolises the working class, resilience and the untamed spirit of man who, despite difficulties, manages to face life’s challenges. The participating artists at the ECHO Academy in Athens have created an enchanting collection that, in addition to its unique illustrations and heritage elements, boldly tackles contemporary socio-political issues such as urban gentrification, police violence and contemporary values in general.
