Advocacy for Youth Employment

Advocacy for Youth Employment (ADYE) seeks to improve the capacities of youth organisations to advocate for youngsters’ rights in the post-pandemic framework with particular reference to employment. Taking into consideration that the long-term effects of covid-19 have just started unravelling, unemployment rates are expected to increase in the next semesters. This will inevitably result in a high percentage of young people being unemployed. This is particularly important because youth unemployment rises more sharply and recovers more slowly. This is even truer for youngsters belonging to minorities and/or groups with fewer opportunities, who are even more exposed to unemployment, working poverty or precariousness.

Specifically, the project seeks to:

  • Develop skills of youth organisations and advocates, supporters, allies (Capacity Building Training to Youth organisations)
  • Exchange & establish replicable good practice models for advocacy (Best Practices Guide on Advocacy for Youth Organisations (tools, methods and practical implementation)
  • Raise awareness with regards to youth unemployment and develop tools and methods to address it on the institutional level. ADYE primarily seeks to reinforce the links between research, policy and practice.

To this end, the project will:

a) identify needs related to youth employment at local, regional and national level through field research
(b) research and document successful advocacy initiatives on youth employment
(c) develop and implement replicable models for advocacy for youth organisations. (Deliverable: Best Practices Guide on Advocacy for Youth Organisations).

The key role that Youth organisations hold in representing European Youth was identified early during the preliminary research conducted by the partners. However, their capacities to be involved in institutional processes of decision making remains limited due to limited capacities in the field of policy and advocacy. In line with the objectives of increasing quality in the work and practices of Youth organisations, ADYE seeks to enhance the skills of participating organisations through designing and delivering hands-on, transnational, capacity building training on advocacy and campaigning.

ADYE aims to practically contribute to the ongoing discussion about financial insecurity and its social repercussions to ages 18-30 (a) through raising awareness about youth unemployment its causes and effects (b) by encouraging debates between civic organisations, bodies of public authorities and policymakers (c) by upskilling the capacity of Youth organisations to advocate and adequately represent the Youth.
